The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is one of the computer based online all India examination for the students of UG subjects in engineering, architecture, technology and post graduate subjects in science. It was first started in 1984.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and other seven Indian Institutes of Technology jointly conduct this test for the admission to various PG education programmes like M.E, M-tech, Ph.D etc in higher Indian education institutes like IISc and IITs.
The score card of GATE is used for the admission in various institutes for PG education as well it is also used by several Indian public sectors companies for the recruitment of graduate engineers in entry level positions. However, the graph is candidates is decreasing annually but its still one of the competitive exam in India.
As with the name the test is only for the graduates or undergraduates for the PG engineering admissions. The exam generally held in the month of February every year in over 660 centres across India.
DURATION OF EXAMINATION
The duration of GATE exam is of 3 hours containing a total of 65 questions with maximum 100 marks. Since it is an online examination now so the candidates are shown the questions in a computer screen with random sequence having both multiple choice and numerical answer type questions.
The candidates are provided with a paper sheet also for rough work which is must to be returned after the examination. Result may be declared after a period of one month whose score card is valid for 3 years from the date of announcement of results.
